Kate Hardy

PC' 2024

Hi! I'm Kate Hardy and this summer I studied abroad at the London School of Economics! The few weeks I spent at LSE were incredibly beneficial as I was able to learn from amazing professors, explore a beautiful city, and meet people from all over the world. Not only were the classes engaging, but I had the opportunity to enjoy London and travel to other parts of Europe! Living in such a dynamic city was eye-opening- there's always something to do, whether visiting street markets, seeing iconic landmarks, or weekend trips to other beauty places. The connections I've made and experiences I've had here are truly special and LSE has broadened both my academic and personal horizons.

This summer, I am working as a legal intern with the Community Resource Center (CRC) of Westchester County, New York. The CRC’s legal team provides essential immigration services to Westchester’s immigrant community. They offer free consultations, assistance with immigration filings, and representation in immigration court and appeals proceedings. Under the supervision of Managing Attorney Bertha Rodriguez and my direct supervisor Carmen Vasquez, I have learned invaluable lessons about the legal process and the profession of immigration law as a whole. In this position, I have worked to digitize and organize all of the CRC’s legal case files, ensuring that they are accesible in the event of a tax audit or re-opened case. I support the legal assistant Carmen Vasquez in her day to day tasks, which include organizing meetings with clients, gathering crucial contextual information on active cases, and intaking new clients into our digital case management system. This internship has not only expanded my knowledge of immigration law but enabled me to practice my Spanish and further connect with my community, as one of my regular tasks includes calling clients to establish the facts of their case. The work that I am doing feels especially important in this current climate, and I am so grateful to Carmen and the CRC for allowing me to join this team for the summer!

Alicia Gemara

PC' 2024

Hi, I’m Alicia Gebara a Robertson scholar studying healthcare policy and nursing at UNC and Duke. This summer, I’ve had the honor of interning in New Orleans as a 6th grade science teaching fellow at Breakthrough. Breakthrough is an organization seeks to bridge gaps in educational equity by serving youth from underserved backgrounds who may benefit from additional summer school to supplement their education. At BT, we hope to inspire a love of learning so our students continue to pursue higher education! Teaching six grade science, I’ve most enjoyed showing my students how biology, earth science, and chemistry are applicable to their everyday lives. As much as I’ve taught my students, they’ve taught me even more, introducing me to New Orleanian traditions, food, and dance!

Martha Higgins

PC' 2024

My name is Martha Higgins, a Sophomore from New York City, and this summer I interned with Intapp in Charlotte, NC. I worked as an Implementation Services Intern with Intapp's customer relationship management (CRM) software, DealCloud. This software helps financial and professional services firms centralize their deal and relationship data, allowing these clients to use their DealCloud sites to gain market insight and execute business efficiently. As a rising Sophomore, this full-time internship was my first experience in a corporate role. Each day, I learned more about organizational communication, networking, and business strategy. Additionally, working directly with financial services clients provided me with the necessary industry knowledge for my prospective career field. I will use these professional and technical skills as I apply to Kenan-Flagler and begin navigating the complex financial services landscape.
